The
patented technology for
the Polymax polystyrene densification system was developed by
Huntsman Environmental Research Center (HERC). After developing a
system for removing polystyrene foam from fast-food waste it became
evident that there was a need to densify polystyrene foam.
Traditional balers did not work well for polystyrene foam because of
the “springiness” of the foam. A team from HERC went to work on the
problem and the result was the technology to densify polystyrene
foam. This technology is patented and exclusively licensed
to Matrix Manufacturing, Inc. (US patent no. 5,505,886)
